How we know

One source: NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. Not yet confirmed by a second, independent source.

Our own score for this event is 17 out of 100.

This is our versioned heuristic index, not source severity or a calibrated probability. Urban PEI does not count unique people.

Computed under scoring rules v5. Rows carrying other versions were judged by different rules and are not directly comparable.

Series begins 8 March 2026. Comparisons refer to that period only. Collection gap: 14-26 August 2026.

This data is aggregated algorithmically from scientific sources. Not a replacement for official emergency warnings.

Safety information

What to do in a solar storm

A solar storm is not dangerous to people on the ground: it can disturb power, radio and satellite navigation. What to do, from FEMA’s Ready.gov.

For this reportSolar Storm

  1. Nothing to fear outdoors

The atmosphere protects people on the ground; you may even see an aurora.

  2. Be ready for a power cut

Torch, batteries, charged phone, and a plan for medical devices that need power.

  3. Do not rely only on GPS

Satellite navigation and radio can be wrong or drop out for a while.

Before, during, after. Here it is still “during”.

Before · When a storm is forecast

  • Charge what matters

    Phones and power banks.

  • Medicines and devices

Ask your doctor how to store medicines and run devices without power.

During · During the storm

  • Save electricity

If authorities ask, to avoid rolling blackouts.

After · After a long power cut

  • Check the food

Throw away what stayed above 4 °C for more than two hours.

Questions people ask

Is a solar storm dangerous for my health?

No, not on the ground. It concerns power grids, satellites, radio and, at high latitudes, aircraft crews. Source: NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.

Will I see the northern lights?

In strong storms the aurora can be seen far from the poles. Look north (south in the southern hemisphere) on a dark, clear night.
