How we know

One source: Environment and Climate Change Canada. Not yet confirmed by a second, independent source.

Our own score for this event is 16 out of 100.

This is our versioned heuristic index, not source severity or a calibrated probability. Urban PEI does not count unique people.

Computed under scoring rules v5. Rows carrying other versions were judged by different rules and are not directly comparable.

Safety information

What to do in a thunderstorm

Three things first, then what to do before, during and after. From the US National Weather Service.

For this reportSevere Weather · Canada

  1. When thunder roars, go indoors

If you can hear thunder, lightning can reach you. Go into a closed building or a hard-topped car with the windows shut.

    NWS
  2. Nowhere is safe outdoors

Not under a tree, not in a tent or a shelter open at the sides. Get away from water and high ground.

    NWS
  3. Wait 30 minutes

Go back out only 30 minutes after the last thunder.

    NWS

Before, during, after. Here it is “after”.

Before · When storms are forecast

  • Check the forecast

Before going out, especially to mountains, the sea or open fields.

  • Know where to shelter

A closed building or a car you can reach quickly.

National Weather Service

During · While it storms

  • Keep off water and plumbing

No baths or showers, no washing up.

  • Away from windows

And from doors and corded phones.

  • Flash floods

Never drive or walk into a flooded road.

National Weather Service

After · When it has passed

  • Thirty minutes

After the last thunder, not the last rain.

  • Fallen lines

Keep away from power lines and anything touching them.
