Daily Risk Headlines

The Calamity Forecast Index (CFI) generates per-country, per-hazard risk assessments updated daily. Journalists can use the CFI to produce data-driven headlines with a citable source — no interpretation needed. Note: the CFI estimates risk levels based on historical data, seasonality, and current activity — it does not predict specific events.

How often is data updated?

Data is polled in 4 tiers: critical hazards (earthquakes, tsunami) every 45 seconds, near-real-time sources every 5 minutes, monitoring sources every 30 minutes, and slow-moving hazards every 6-24 hours.

What are the data sources?

We aggregate from USGS, EMSC, GDACS, NASA FIRMS, NOAA, Copernicus, national geological surveys, weather services, and 240+ additional scientific monitoring organizations. Full list on our /about page.

Is the data reliable for editorial use?

Calamity aggregates and scores data from established scientific monitoring organizations. It is not a replacement for official emergency alerts. All events include source attribution for verification.
